We will release the maps today, people will be able to see those maps. And election campaign? I\rquote m Curious though, exactly what that figure is now because when it was originally spoke it was a $43 billion spend and then now we see sort of quotes for $29 billion spend. What is the actual figure? \par }{\b\f1\insrsid11224963\charrsid11224963 PM:}{\f1\insrsid11224963 It\rquote s a $43 billion project \endash yes that\rquote s right. And it is going to pay for itself time after time after time. Let\rquote s be clear about this, I will build the National Broadband Network, this is vital infrastructure if we are going to have the jobs of tomorrow. They\rquote ve found themselves in this situation because of the Federal Government and its meanness towards the pensioners. Now down here in Busselton we\rquote ve had to provide free firewood to the pensioners to warm up their h omes of a night time simply because they don\rquote t have the money to spend on firewood. Now what\rquote s the Federal Government doing about this. I might point out that in {\*\xmlopen\xmlns1{\factoidname stockticker}}{\*\xmlopen\xmlns1{\factoidname stockticker}}Perth{\*\xmlclose}{\*\xmlclose} we had three pensioners die because of the cold. For single pensioners we\rquote re talking about $65 a fortnight. Now I know that there are st ill many, many pensioners who are doing it tough and I know utilities prices make it difficult. That of course is directly in the domain of the Premier here and a matter for the State Government. But for the Federal Government, what we did was we provided an increase in the pension \endash historically high.\~ What I\rquote m worried about for the future, and I understand for pensioners who are doing it tough, for families doing it tough, that this is a critical question: is what are the prices you are going to pay when you go down to the local shops?\~ My plan is to cut company tax on businesses like Coles and Woolworths.\~ Mr Abbott\rquote s plan is to put company tax up, and that would feed through to the prices you pay. \par }{\b\f1\insrsid11224963\charrsid11224963 {\*\xmlopen\xmlns1{\factoidname stockticker}}HOST{\*\xmlclose}:}{\f1\insrsid11224963 Are you worried that there are more and more Howard s out there, on the strength of the press conference you had to give earlier this week in which you said that you\rquote d made, you turned a negative into a positive by saying: yes, I was not sure about increases in pensions because I wasn\rquote t sure about cost.\~ Do you have to get past a perception that might still linger there that says Julia Gillard opposed a pension increase? \par }{\b\f1\insrsid11224963\charrsid11224963 PM:}{\f1\insrsid11224963 Well, for the Government\rquote s record, I\rquote ve obviously said I take my fair share of responsibility for the things that went right and the things that went wrong.\~ For the things that went right, when we were threatened by the global financial crisis, we made the right decisions to keep our economy strong and to keep people in work.\~ That means we made the right economic choices.\~ If we\rquote d made the economic choices Mr Abbott wanted to have us make, we\rquote d be in recession now with hundreds of thousands of people out of work.\~ People are then going to look to the future and say, what will I do as Prime Minister if re-elected on the 21 }{\f1\super\insrsid11224963 st}{\f1\insrsid11224963 of August?\~ I\rquote ll keep our economy strong, I\rquote ll build the infrastructure we need for the future \endash the National Broadband Network.\~ I\rquote ll keep investing in schools, computers, Trade Training Centres, better teachers.\~ I\rquote ll keep delivering better healthcare, more doctors, more nurses.\~ Mr Abbott?\~ No broadband, risk to the economy, wouldn\rquote t build Trade Training Centres or computers.\~ He\rquote s going to end all of that and he wants to end our GP Super Clinics and access to a doctor after hours. \par }{\b\f1\insrsid11224963\charrsid11224963 {\*\xmlopen\xmlns1{\factoidname stockticker}}HOST{\*\xmlclose}:}{\f1\insrsid11224963 Ok there are a couple of things that need to be looked at, and to pursue this idea that you haven\rquote t papered over some cracks that existed. You announced a breakthrough in the mining tax, but days later that resentment from others that aren\rquote t {\*\xmlopen\xmlns1{\factoidname stockticker}}BHP{\*\xmlclose} and who aren\rquote t {\*\xmlopen\xmlns1 {\factoidname stockticker}}Rio{\*\xmlclose} and Xstrata began to emerge. You announced a border protection policy suggesting that there might be a processing solution in {\*\xmlopen\xmlns1{\factoidname stockticker}}East Timor{\*\xmlclose} . There has been no new detail beyond that announcement. There is a perception that on climate change you squibbed it, you threw at your audience a Citizen\rquote s Assembly to determine how this nation should act. Where\rquote s the leadership there? \par }{\b\f1\insrsid11224963\charrsid11224963 PM:}{\f1\insrsid11224963 We\rquote ll let\rquote s unpack all of this piece by piece. Mining, the nation was in a fast and furious debate. And I believe respect had gone out of that conversation. I struck a breakthrough agreement with the biggest mining companies in this country which will overwhelmingly pay this tax. Yes there\rquote s further work to do with smaller miners, and when I use that term, this tax is only going to apply to miners who have a profit of $50 million or more. That\rquote s the scale of company we are talking about. We are in a process of consultation with them. I\rquote ve personally met with representatives of those mining companies.
